SIET Builds an Electric Car and Won the 2nd place in the REEV conducted by Society of Automobile Engineering (SAE)

A team of 30 ambitious students of Sri Shakthi institute of engineering and technology began a memorable journey in a prestigious competition known as Range Extended Electric Vehicle(REEV). It all started, when the students association of the mechanical engineering department took the initiative to form the team. With an entry test, 30 students were shortlisted from the departments mechanical, electrical, electronics, and automobile and thus we formed a very strong team in all aspects under the guidance of Mr. Mari Prabhu – Coordinator for REEV.

REEV is an outcome event of a well-conceived purpose to springboard the next generation of urban mobility pioneers. SAE Bengaluru, together with partners such as General Motor Technical Centre- India and TVS motors to name a few worked for over eighteen months to make this competition a reality. “REEV focuses on developing engineers of tomorrow who will about revolutionary solutions to urban mobility. Brain McMurray, Site Leader, General Motors Technical Centre- India, said: "REEV will steer, evaluate and direct the competition in a manner to uphold this purpose”. The REEV competition is set to be a game-changing student’s competition in India.

In this event totally nine college teams participated, where from Tamil Nadu including SSIET two college teams entered. All the participants were given the goal to make an urban vehicle that is Fuel-efficient (FE), considering Environment and Technology in mind through a disciplined and structured development plan.

Our college students with guidance from our Secretary Mr. T.Deepan and our Vice Principal & Head of department of Mechanical engineering Dr. A.R.Ravikumar completed the registration. Then the Team de’ Rapacious caster with a total 30 students, 18 members from mechanical, 4 members from Electrical engineering, 8 members from electrical and communication engineering, and Team mentor Mr. Vijaykumar Kudtalkar from the Continental, staff coordinator from our college is Mr. Mari Prabhu, Asst Professor, Mechanical Engg competed in this event.

The Team de’ Rapacious caster of SSIET went long way in the competition and achieved First in Acceleration and brake test, First in Dynamic test, and an Overall 2nd place in India. The team also gained many highlighted moments to cherish, Mr. Brian McMurray, Vice president - Engineering and Operations at General Motors drove our vehicle by his interest and gave very good feedback on our vehicle. Our vehicle cleared both mechanical and electric safety quicker than other teams. Cleared endurance without any damage when compared to other colleges. Gained the best feedback on the suspension system, braking, steering systems, and electrical system. In Tamil Nadu, our team secured 1st place and won cash prize of Rs.70,000 which is higher than the overall 1st winners.
